Debut novelists Dur e Aziz Amna (American Fever) and Sarah Thankam Mathews (All This Could Be Different) will help us reopen the AAWW event space this August with readings from their books, and conversation on community, otherness, and writing immigrant futures in twenty-first century America.

We are so excited to welcome our community back into the home you’ve helped us build, and ask that you respect the following COVID-19 guidelines in our space, to keep everyone safe and healthy: 

• RSVP’s are required for all events, and we will be operating the space with a reduced audience size for the time being. You can RSVP here to claim a seat.

• We require that everyone who enters the Asian American Writers’ Workshop to be fully vaccinated, and to remain masked indoors at all times. We acknowledge that local, state, and federal guidelines are changing rapidly, and ask that you respect our space and community as we strive to keep everyone safe and healthy.

• We encourage audience members to take a rapid-test before attending events at the Workshop, and to stay home if you are feeling unwell, experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, or have been exposed to anyone who has tested positive within 7 days of your visit.

Dur e Aziz Amna grew up in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and now lives in Newark, USA. Her debut novel, AMERICAN FEVER, is forthcoming from Sceptre and Arcade in August 2022. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, Financial Times, and Al Jazeera, among others. She won the 2021 Salam Award and the 2019 Financial Times / Bodley Head Essay Prize. She graduated from Yale College and the Helen Zell Writers’ Program at the University of Michigan.

Sarah Thankam Mathews grew up between Oman and India, immigrating to the United States at seventeen. She is a recipient of a Best American Short Stories 2020 award and fellowships from the Asian American Writers Workshop and the Iowa Writers Workshop. All This Could Be Different is her first novel.
